Apple is moving faster than ever toward its goal of becoming carbon neutral across its entire global footprint by 2030. The tech giant announced a significant expansion of its environmental initiatives in India, focusing on clean energy infrastructure, plastic waste reduction, and local entrepreneurship.

At the heart of this announcement is a strategic partnership with CleanMax, a leading renewable energy developer. Apple is committing an initial investment of INR 100 crore to develop over 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity throughout the country. This initiative is expected to generate enough clean power to support roughly 150,000 Indian households annually.

This investment builds on Apple’s existing relationship with CleanMax, which previously installed rooftop solar projects for Apple’s local offices and retail stores. By scaling these efforts, Apple is helping its supply chain partners transition to greener energy sources.

Apple is also intensifying its fight against plastic pollution through a collaboration with WWF-India. The initiative focuses on strengthening waste management systems to prevent plastic from leaking into vital ecosystems. By supporting recovery-focused recycling, Apple and WWF-India are prioritizing both environmental safety and social safeguards for waste workers.

The program is currently expanding into new regions, such as Coimbatore, following a successful model in Goa with Saahas Zero Waste. These facilities are designed to collect, sort, and recover recyclable materials with full traceability. This circular waste system ensures that materials are recovered responsibly at scale while supporting local governance and community infrastructure.

Beyond infrastructure, Apple is investing in the next generation of environmental leaders through a partnership with Acumen. The program provides mentorship and catalytic grants to six green enterprises developing circular economy solutions. These entrepreneurs are working on diverse challenges, ranging from regenerative agriculture to more efficient waste management.

Several innovative startups are already benefiting from Apple’s support, such as Saptkrishi, which helps farmers reduce crop loss with low-cost storage solutions. Others, like Yotuh Energy, are developing electric refrigerated trucks to make the transport of food and medicine cleaner. Additionally, Mowo Fleet is creating new livelihoods by training women to become EV drivers and entrepreneurs.

These Indian initiatives are part of a massive global shift detailed in Apple’s latest Environmental Progress Report. Since 2015, Apple has managed to reduce its overall greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60%. Remarkably, this environmental progress occurred during a period where the company’s revenue grew by 78%.
