In other news from Bloomberg, Apple is also planning to update both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027. Since the iPad Pro was recently redesigned with the M4 chip and tandem OLED displays in May 2024, Bloomberg doesn’t expect a major redesign for the upcoming generation. It would rather be a spec bump instead.
Now, the iPad Pro was last updated in October 2025, which currently features the M5 chip, the N1 wireless networking chip, and the C1X modem on cellular models. Apple also bumped the memory from 8GB to 12GB on both the 215GB and 512GB storage configurations (16GB remains the same on the 1TB and 2TB storage configurations).
What remains to be seen on this next generation of the iPad Pro is whether Apple is bringing the M6 chip or the M7 chip. You see, Apple has completed development of the M6 MacBook Pro, and Bloomberg indicated that Apple plans to launch the laptop in the fall of 2026, followed quickly by the redesigned M7 MacBook Pro in the first half of 2027.
Although Bloomberg doesn’t know which chip will be featured in the next iPad Pro, it’s still possible that Apple could bring the M7 chip to the iPad Pro if that chip is ready by then. Otherwise, it would use the M6 chip. One way or another, the next iPad Pro should be more energy efficient, as both the M6 and the M7 chip are built using the breakthrough 2-nanometer process. Furthermore, it’s also rumored that the M7 series of chips will be solely focused on substantial AI performance enhancements. One improvement we could possibly see on the next iPad Pro is a vapor chamber cooling system that’s introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, which should bring more sustained performance overall.
I’d bet that the next iPad Pro could launch alongside the M7 MacBook Pro since Apple introduced the M5 iPad Pro and the M5 14-inch MacBook Pro at the same time last October, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
