Target announced on Thursday that it will be expanding its same-day delivery services to enable them to compete with Amazon and other competitors.
Same-Day delivery means that you can place an order for something like your weekly groceries or other items in the store that you are looking to buy, and then the company delivers them to your house that day.
There are about 65,000 items that can be delivered to you with same-day delivery, which can be delivered to your home in less than an hour in some cases.
This is all being done through a delivery service called Shipt, a company that Target acquired back in 2017.
To use Shipt, you can either pay a $9.99 delivery fee on your delivery or pay an annual $99 membership fee, where you will only have to pay a fee if your delivery is less than $35. Shipt members get free deliveries of orders of $35 or more.
Dawn Block, senior vice president, digital, said this about the expansion of the company’s same-day delivery service:
“With same-day delivery now available directly within the Target.com experience, we’ve made it even easier for our guests to shop at Target, while still getting the great value, curated product assortment and helpful guest service they’ve come to expect.”
For now, this can only be done through Target’s website and the Shipt app. At this time, the same day delivery services cannot be used in Target’s iOS app. However, you can use the Target mobile website from your smartphone’s browser to order that way, just not their app.
When using Shipt’s app, you will be able to make your order through Target and be able to pay with Apple Pay too, unlike Target’s app and website. Target’s app does accept Apple Pay, but since same-day delivery is not functional in the app right now, Shipt’s app would be the only way to get same-day delivery through Target and still pay with Apple Pay.
Ship is currently offering a four-week free trial of their delivery service that you can sign up for on Target’s website. If not done, the $9.99 delivery fee per order will be applied to each order you make.
