The holiday season is in full swing and although people usually like going out and buying physical gifts for their family and friends, there might be some apps in the App Store that could help you get that gift for that special someone in your life this holiday season.
Apple has thousands of great apps in the Mac App Store, but there are some that would make some truly awesome presents:
- Tweetbot: This could be that app for the person in your life that is a Twitter addict. Maybe they don’t like the new Twitter for Mac app. Tweetbot has a fantastic design to it and is one of those apps where, yes, you do have to pay for it, but it is an app that I have been using for over five years and I have absolutely no regrets about it or the money that I have spent on it throughout the years. Tweetbot for Mac is available for $9.99.
- Pastebot (Review): Do you know someone who does a lot of writing or is a student? What this app does is that when you have it open, it saves everything that you copy (so, essentially every time you hit Command + C) so that if you need to, you can access it later. When I was in college, this helped me out a lot when I was writing papers or working on assignments. Get it for that special writer or student that you know. It is available in the Mac App Store for $12.99.
- CARROT Weather (Review): Is there a weather aficionado in your family? This is a great app for those who like to follow the weather, get the alerts as they are announced have big, in-depth radar for them to look at. I have used it a couple of times already since the new update to track a couple of snowstorms. It does look quite nice on the Mac. It can be purchased in the Mac App Store for $14.99, which does have in-app purchases for subscription fees too.
- Final Cut Pro: Are you looking to spend a lot or get that aspiring filmmaker another tool to add to their disposal when making videos and films? Final Cut Pro will be able to do just that and then some. It is currently priced at $299 in the Mac App Store.
- Day One (Review): Perhaps there is someone in your family that likes to journal on their free time as one of their hobbies. This is one of the best apps throughout the entire App Store that will allow them to be able to journal with a rich and clean interface, and make them happy too. It is a free app in the Mac App Store and does have an annual $34.99 fee for those who want the full features of the app.
- Fantastical 2 (Updated review): Have someone in your family that is not a fan of the default Apple Calendar app? Well, here is an app that might interest them. Not only does it have a different type of design, compared to the Apple Calendar app, but it does have a premium look and feel when using it. It currently costs $39.99 on the Mac App Store. It is also on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
- Scrivener 3: The novelist, author or screenplay writer would love you for this one. This is one of the best writing apps in the Mac App Store, which is available on there for $48.99. Definitely an app to consider getting this holiday season.
- Pixelmator or Pixelmator Pro (Pixelmator Pro review): With services like Photoshop getting more and more popular, but certainly not decreasing in price, Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro are excellent alternatives. They help you because not only are they a great gift, but only come with a one-time charge, whereas apps like Photoshop have an expensive annual fee of $120. Pixelmator can be purchased for $29.99 in the Mac App Store and Pixelmator Pro can be purchased for $39.99 too.
- Deliveries (Review): We all have that person who loves shopping on Amazon and online shopping as a whole a little too much. Regardless, this app will give them a great visual of where their packages are at and when they will arrive at their doorstep. It currently costs $4.99 in the Mac App Store.
- Apple Arcade: this one is not so much an app but a new gaming service by Apple. For the sake of the Mac, users will get a select variety of games that will be playable on the Mac for both online and offline playing. Apple Arcade costs $4.99 a month, with it also being available to use on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV.
