Apple announced yesterday that iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 will be compatible with all devices that can run iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. For macOS Monterey, Apple has dropped support for some of the earlier Macs, including models from 2013-2014. With all of the exciting changes coming to Apple’s upcoming OS releases, Apple did note that some features will not be available on older models. Here are the requirements that you’ll need to use the following features.

Spatial audio in FaceTime

  • iPhone/iPad with A12 Bionic or later
  • Mac models (2018 and later)

Portrait Mode in FaceTime

  • iPhone/iPad with A12 Bionic or later
  • Mac models with M1 chip

Live Text in Photos

  • iPhone/iPad with A12 Bionic or later
  • Mac models with M1 chip

Interactive globe & Detailed new city experience in Maps

  • iPhone/iPad with A12 Bionic or later
  • Mac models with M1 chip
  • Immersive walking directions only available on iPhone with A12 Bionic and later

On-device speech processing/personalization, offline support for Siri

On-device & continuous keyboard dictation

  • iPhone/iPad with A12 Bionic or later
  • Mac models with M1 chip

Spatial audio with AirPods Pro/Max

  • iPhone 7 and later
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad (6th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • Mac models with M1 chip

Walking Steadiness in Health on iOS 15

  • iPhone 8 and later

Keys for Wallet on iOS 15

  • iPhone XS and later

Universal Control on macOS Monterey & iPadOS 15

  • Any of the following Mac models
    • MacBook (2016 and later)
    • MacBook Air (2018 and later)
    • MacBook Pro (2016 and later)
    • iMac (2017 and later)
    • iMac (5K Retina 27-inch, Late 2015)
    • iMac Pro
    • Mac mini (2018 and later)
    • Mac Pro (2019)
  • And any of the following iPad models
    • iPad Pro
    • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
    • iPad (6th generation and later)
    • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

AirPlay to Mac on macOS Monterey*

  • Any of the following Mac models
    • MacBook Air (2018 and later)
    • MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
    • iMac (2019 and later)
    • iMac Pro
    • Mac mini (2020 and later)
    • Mac Pro (2019)
  • And any of the following iPhone/iPad models
    • iPhone 7 and later
    • iPad Pro (2nd generation and later)
    • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
    • iPad (6th generation and later)
    • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

*Older iPhone/iPad/Mac models may share content at a lower resolution to supported Mac models when “Allow AirPlay for” is set to “Everyone” or “Anyone in the same network” in Sharing preferences

Object Capture on macOS Monterey

  • Mac models with at least 16GB RAM and 4GB VRAM

Low Power Mode on macOS Monterey

  • MacBook (2016 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2016 and later)
