If you want to save a couple of hundred bucks on a brand-new iPad or Mac, the secret was that you could go to Apple’s Education Store. And guess what? You could buy any of their products regardless of any verification.

Yep, that’s all in past tense. Up until now, customers were able to save a couple of bucks without paying full price when they purchase stuff directly from Apple. Unfortunately, as spotted on Reddit, Apple has now closed that loophole. Therefore, the U.S. store now requires that current students and faculty verify their eligibility for education discounts through UNiDAYS. This is similar to signing up for Apple Music for students.

Good news is that there are still several ways to save big on Apple products. Chances are you can find what you want at Apple’s Certified Refurbished store. You’ll basically getting an Apple product in like-new condition as well as the same one-year warranty. Of course, other authorized resellers have been offering huge sales on brand new products, including the very popular MacBook Air. In the end, you’ll be getting a great product from Apple even if you save big.
