The biggest highlight for this week has clearly been that Tesla CEO Elon Musk as acquired Twitter for $44 billion, and the future of Twitter has just been getting started.

One of the biggest drawbacks of using Twitter has been that you cannot edit tweets once you posted them. Facebook and the rest of the social media apps have implemented an ‘Edit’ feature for years.

On April Fools Day, Twitter posted this tweet below. Naturally, everyone takes this with a grain of salt because of the April Fools jokes floating around. However, on that same day, the company was actually serious. They have been indeed working on that long-requested feature after all.

So with this news confirmed, here’s what we can expect for this upcoming feature.

  • You may edit a tweet within an hour after posting, and you can only edit a certain number of times.
  • You can find the ‘Edit Tweet’ in the menu to start editing.
  • Similar to Discord, once you edit a tweet, you’ll see the “Edited” tag after the date of posting to indicate that the tweet has been edited.
  • In the timeline, edited tweets with have a pencil icon next to the date.
  • You can also find the ‘Edit History’ to review existing revisions of a tweet.
  • Even though this ‘edit’ feature won’t be available to free users, users on the premium Twitter Blue will be able to test it “in the coming months”.

Even though Elon Musk has objected the idea of an ‘Edit’ button in Twitter, we don’t have a word on when that long-awaited feature will arrive to the platform.
