Tapbots creating new Mastodon app, Tweetbot to still get updates but not be as high priority

The developers of the popular third-party Twitter app Tweetbot will be shifting focus from Tweetbot to a new app.

Developers of Tapbots are currently working on a new Mastodon app client called “Ivory.” The app is currently in early alpha testing. Unfortunately, the TestFlight beta is full at this time too.

Mastodon has recently been seen as a Twitter alternative for those looking to get away from it.

However, according to a post made by Mark Jardine on Mastodon, a co-founder of Tapbots, while the group will still work on Tweetbot for new updates, Ivory will now be the highest priority between the two apps.

“Hello people of the Fediverse! Some of you may have heard that a new Mastodon client, Ivory,  is in development for iOS (and Mac!). This is true! Tapbots is going all in on Mastodon and we hope this place continues to grow and thrive. Tweetbot will continue to be developed alongside Ivory as a lot of code is shared. A new Mac version of Tweetbot and Ivory are also currently in development and we are working hard on getting those towards a public beta state.”

Right now, there is no timeline for the release of Ivory, but we can probably expect a release by either early or mid-2023.

Tapbots has other apps such as Calcbot on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, and the Pastebot app just for the Mac.
