According to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, he spotted a post on X today from a private account that has often been on point when it comes to upcoming iOS updates.
According to that post, which has since been deleted to keep things low-profile, iOS 18 is expected to retain support for all iPhone models with an A12 chip or later. In other words, all iOS 17-compatible devices will be able to upgrade to iOS 18. Those models include:
- iPhone XR, XS/Max
- iPhone 11/Pro/Pro Max
- iPhone 12/mini/Pro/Pro Max
- iPhone 13/mini/Pro/Pro Max
- iPhone 14/Plus/Pro/Pro Max
- iPhone 15/Plus/Pro/Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd/3rd generation)
The features we can expect for iOS 18, which will be announced at this year’s WWDC, are next-generation AI for Siri, RCS support in Messages, and new UI design changes inspired by visionOS. It’s worth noting that some features, especially AI-related ones, may require a more modern Neural Engine for better optimization.
The public release for iOS 18 is expected this fall shortly after the introduction of the iPhone 16 lineup.
