When Apple introduced the MacBook Air with the M3 chip early this week, one of the most notable changes was that Apple started to offer a higher-end standard configuration with 16GB of unified memory. All the standard configurations for the previous M2 and M1 models came equipped with 8GB of unified memory.
Now, following suit with the newly announced MacBook Air, Apple also added a higher-end standard configuration of the 14-inch MacBook Pro (M3) with 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of SSD for $1,999, as spotted by French website Consomac. Previously, customers had to custom configure that machine to upgrade to those specs; however, seeing that configuration as standard means that Apple Stores and authorized resellers will be stocking those configurations as well as seeing huge discounts for that configuration in the coming months.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 chip has been heavily criticized for starting at 8GB of unified memory at the base standard configuration, so seeing a standard configuration with 16GB is more than a welcome change for those who prefer to buy MacBooks at lower prices in other third-party resellers as those places offered only standard configurations in general.
