This afternoon, MacRumors has reported and confirmed that the Apple TV HD will be able to get the tvOS 18 update that was unveiled during Apple’s keynote that kicked off the beginning of WWDC 2024. It was previously just a rumor.
What makes this extraordinarily interesting, important, and unique is that the Apple TV HD was originally released in October 2015, making it nearly nine years old and still receiving proper software updates from Apple.
Apple discontinued the Apple TV HD in October 2022 but did enable it to get last year’s tvOS 17 and will now also be doing the same with tvOS 18.
Along with the Apple TV HD being compatible with tvOS 18, all versions of the Apple TV 4K will get the update too.
tvOS 18 is expected to be released this fall but an official release date for it has not been officially announced yet. Go here to learn more about the offerings tvOS 18 will have this year.
