H-E-B grocery stores could be accepting Apple Pay as soon as next week

Earlier this year, we reported that Texas-based H-E-B added support for contactless/tap payments in its Central Market stores, which means the stores would accept Apple Pay when coming from a customer’s iPhone or Apple Watch.

A leaked email that has made its way to X (formerly Twitter) that indicates that Apple Pay could begin being accepted at all regular H-E-B grocery stores starting on Monday, October 7.

The email does say there is a schedule for a rollout of Apple Pay support coming to H-E-B stores, but it is not visible in the image of the tweet. More importantly, support is on the way for it.

Once support is added to H-E-B stores for Apple Pay acceptance, it would enable Apple Card users that pay from their iPhone or Apple Watch to get 2% in Daily Cash on each purchase they make.

This would be a major deal for Apple Pay users since H-E-B has been a longtime holdout of accepting the digital payment method. Over the years, other grocery store chains have accepted Apple Pay such as Kroger and Kroger-owned grocery stores, Iowa-based Fareway, Florida-based Publix, and other popular chains too.

Additionally, Apple Pay support seems to be getting more support in stores as the years go on, with The Home Depot beginning to rollout Apple Pay support over the past week or so.

At this time, there is only one major holdout of Apple Pay support in the U.S., which is Walmart. The company does accept Apple Pay in its stores in Canada, but for some reason, it seems to refuse to bring support and accept it in its American stores.
