Apple’s M2 processor will reportedly enter mass production this month and is expected to debut in new MacBooks this year.

According to sources from Nikkei Asia, Apple’s TSMC-made M2 processor that will power the next MacBooks will enter production this month and shipping are due in July, just a couple of months before new Macs are unveiled.

According to Taipei, Nikkei Asia,

“The next generation of Mac processors designed by Apple entered mass production this month, sources familiar with the matter told Nikkei Asia, bringing the U.S. tech giant one step closer to its goal of replacing Intel-designed central processing units with its own.

Shipments of the new chipset ”“ tentatively known as the M2, after Apple’s current ”ŒM1”Œ processor ”“ could begin as early as July for use in MacBooks that are scheduled to go on sale in the second half of this year, the people said.”

Apple is transitioning its Mac processors from Intel to Silicon with their own versions, starting with M1 that was unveiled in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops in November 2019.

The next generation Silicon processor by Apple is dubbed “M2” and is speculated to power the upcoming MacBooks. Cupertino will debut new 14-inch MacBook Air and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with a new design, better displays, returning ports, and more later this year.

The tech giant held its “Spring Loaded” event last week where it unveiled the new M1 iMac, M1 iPad Pro, AirTags, and more. Apple could also discontinue the current 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and replace it with the upcoming 14-inch model.
