Looks like the launch of the 2022 iPhone SE is getting closer, as reports cite that the iPhone production is making significant progress and inching closer to a launch in either April or May of this year.
The original iPhone SE was launched back in March 2016 as the most budget iPhone in the lineup, featuring the design of the iPhone 5s with improved specs.
Jumping forward to April 2020, Apple refreshed the design and gave the second-generation device the iPhone 8 design with specs like the A13 Bionic chip, a single camera setup with 4K 60fps video shooting, and a starting price of $399. Two years later, a refresh is anticipated.
According to Ross Young ”“ analyst for Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) ”“ production for the iPhone SE 3 display panel is readying for this month, in addition to citing a slated release of the device either in April or May. Young also stated that mass production to begin in March on his Twitter:
“Apple 5G SE model starting panel production this month. Phone production likely from March. This means a launch is likely for 2H April/early May with shipments from late April or early May.”
The third-gen iPhone SE is expected to sport the same 4.7”³ iPhone 8 design as the 2020 model, in addition to improved specs such as an A15 Bionic chip, a better camera, etc. While 5G is the major feature of the device.
Perhaps the design is outdated for a 2022 device and may not draw iPhone buyers to upgrade. However, another leaker ”“ @dylandkt, notes that a design refresh is being pushed further to 2024. This is not really shocking, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the chip shortage that has affected every major tech company in the world, not just Apple.
Apple is expected to hold its first event this year in either March or April where it will announce the iPhone SE 3 in addition to other potential products slated to debut throughout 2022.
