Last September, Apple introduced the second generation of AirPods Pro, which brought several new features such as improved Active Noise Cancellation and enhanced “Find My” integration. These wireless headphones are considered to be the best ones that every Apple customer should get.

Now, the only AirPods model that has yet to see an update is the AirPods Max, which was first introduced in December 2020. Now, Ming-Chi Kuo reported that mass shipments of AirPods Max 2 and a more budget-friendly AirPods model would likely start as early as the second half of 2024.

Kuo also said Apple is aiming for the cheaper version of the AirPods to start at $99. Currently, the most affordable AirPods model in the lineup is the second-generation AirPods at $129; however, that headset is getting rather long in the tooth for its outdated design. So it would make sense for Apple to replace it. We could see the new model be called the “AirPods SE”, which would perfectly be in line with the iPhone SE and Apple Watch SE, which are both the most affordable models in their respective lineups.

For the AirPods Max (2nd generation), Kuo did not offer any additional details about the upcoming over-the-ear headphones, but there are several features that the next generation could offer or borrow from AirPods Pro 2. This includes new color options, a USB-C port for charging, improved ANC, and even a U1 chip for Precision Finding via Find My.

Would you be picking up either of those models when they come out? Let us know in the comments below.
