With Earth Day coming up in less than two weeks, Apple has announced its annual plans to make its products more environment-friendly than ever. Over the past several years, its products have used recycled materials and have eliminated toxins found in its products’ components. For instance, MacBooks moved to mercury-free LED-backlit displays, and most of the products Apple ships have been made out of 100% recycled aluminum.
Apple has announced its goal to be carbon neutral by 2023. Now, Apple has announced these plans to help the company achieve its goal by 2025:
- All-Apple designed batteries will be made with 100% recycled cobalt.
- Apple will use 100% certified recycled tin soldering on all of its designed printed rigid and flexible circuit boards.
- Apple will eliminate plastics from its packaging.
Finally, Apple has been making ways to recover materials from discarded products, leading to less e-waste, most notably in its Material Recovery Lab in Austin, Texas, where the company’s robot Daisy can separate components when disassembling the iPhone. Just recently, Apple also installed overhead project-based AR systems for recycling partners that will assist them in disassembling MacBooks and iPads with video projects.
With all of these ambitious plans, Apple is always committed to a more sustainable environment with the progress they’ve made.
