iOS 17 does not support the iPhone 8 and iPhone X

Apple has finally released iOS 17 to the public with several new features and changes including NameDrop, StandBy Mode, Live Voicemail, new Mental Health features, Offline Maps, AirTag sharing, and more.

However, iOS 17 is not supported on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, which were released in 2017 with the A11 Bionic Chip. The iPhone X was the first device with an all-screen device by Apple and it played a great role in paving the way for recent iPhone releases. These devices were launched with iOS 11 and were supported through iOS 16, which is an impressive six years of consecutive software support.

Here are the devices supported by iOS 17:

iOS 17 is supported on the devices listed below:

  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)

It is hard to believe that the iPhone 8 and the legendary iPhone X are not going to support iOS 17, but it’s worth noting that these devices will continue to receive security updates.

If you want to experience the new features of iOS 17, we would recommend you to upgrade to a newer iPhone model. However, do note that not all features are available on all iPhone models due to hardware limitations.

Do you use an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or an iPhone X? Will you upgrade to a newer iPhone? Let us know down in the comments or tweet to us on @appleosophy! Be sure to download the Appleosophy App from the App Store or visit our website to stay updated with the latest Apple news!
