As we’re expecting Apple to introduce the updated iPad Air and iPad Pro models next month, 9to5Mac has posted details on the dimensions for those upcoming tablets, most notably, the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be over 1mm thinner than its current generation.

Here’s a breakdown of all the dimensions for both the current and upcoming iPads:

  • Current 11-inch iPad Pro – 247.6 mm x 178.5 mm x 5.9 mm
  • Upcoming 11-inch iPad Pro – 249.7 mm x 177.5 mm x 5.1 mm
  • Current 12.9-inch iPad Pro – 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.4 mm
  • Upcoming 13-inch iPad Pro – 281.5 mm x 215.5 mm x 5.0 mm
  • Upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air – 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.0 mm

While the upcoming 11-inch iPad Air’s design is expected to be identical (if not similar) to that of the current iPad Air (hence will have the same dimensions), the larger iPad Air will also be expected to feature the same design as that of the 2018 iPad Pro with its single-lens camera based on the leaked CAD renders.

On the iPad Pro side, the move to OLED displays on both models will contribute to the thinness of both models. OLED displays are thinner than LCD panels because they don’t require a backlit as each pixel has its light. At 5.0 mm for the upcoming 12.9-inch Pro, this will be the thinnest iPad Apple will ever produce. For comparison, that’s thinner than the last iPad touch at 6.1 mm, and it’s even thinner than the last iPod nano at 5.4 mm – the thinnest iPod ever.

We won’t have to wait long until Apple introduces those iPad models, especially the highly anticipated new design for the Pro models. Apple will sometimes hold an Apple event next month, but it can also choose to just announce them during a press release. But given the all-new design that we’re expecting, the former seems to be more likely.
