iOS 18 brings more charging optimization enhancements for iPhone 15 models

Earlier this year, Apple introduced the 80% limit that charges any iPhone 15 model up to 80%, which could further expand the lifespan of those batteries since it would put less strain on the battery by reducing the time that the phone stays fully charged. Now starting with iOS 18, Apple brings even more enhancements to that table that iPhone 15 users will appreciate if they care about the battery’s longevity.

First, iOS 18 will show recommendations on the Lock Screen that users set a particular charging limit for their smartphone based on their recent usage habits. Some users may find that the 80% charge limit won’t be enough to get through the day, so similar to what Tesla has implemented with their electric vehicles, iOS 18 will also offer additional charging limit options beyond the original optimal charge limit.

Those new charge limits can be found in Battery > Charging. From there, users will be able to set the charge limit to any 5% increment above the “default” charge limit: 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, or even 100%.

Additionally, reports suggest that iOS 18 could be recalibrating some iPhones’ maximum battery capacity percentage, which is measured by the current battery capacity relative to when the battery was first manufactured.

Both the iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4) also feature the 80% charge limit, so it won’t be much of a surprise if the new enhancements mentioned above will also make their way to iPadOS 18 on those newly announced models.

The first iOS 18 beta is available to developers, followed by a public beta sometime next month and a public release in September.
