Apple has ‘no’ plans for a more, meaningful hardware upgrade for AirPods Max

A few days ago, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg declared that Apple doesn’t have any further plans for a meaningful hardware upgrade for the AirPods Max, which is Apple’s “premium” over-the-ear headphones. But those headsets shouldn’t be considered premium anymore for what you’re paying for. You see, Apple briefly mentioned that the AirPods Max would get USB-C and new color options in its Apple Event in September, and that’s it. You did not get any otheradditional new features and spec improvements that the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 have had such as the H2 chip, Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Bluetooth 5.3. So the AirPods Max is really starting to lag behind its more affordable options in terms of features.

This should probably come as no surprise as the AirPods Max is more niche than the AirPods and AirPods Pro nowadays as Apple doesn’t sell the AirPods Max as much as the other models. We even posted an article on why you should not buy the “updated” AirPods Max, and the fact that the AirPods Max still sells for $549 for the outdated features (it still has the H1 chip) you’re paying for adds insult to injury.

Apple has other more niche devices that don’t get updated as often as Apple Watch, iPhone, or MacBook. Some examples include the iPad mini and Mac Pro. So if you’re holding out for another update for the AirPods Max, don’t get your hopes up for now as the aforementioned headset may not get updated for another few years, and the updates could be minimal again.
