Remember in the “OS X Lion” era when Apple brought several iPhone/iPad-inspired features back to the Mac? Apple has been doing that for years since then, and Apple is continuing that trend by adopting one of the most intuitive gestures on iPhone and iPad, which is the “Swipe down to refresh” gesture.
In many apps such as Safari, Mail, News, Podcasts, and Calendar, just like on iOS or on iPadOS, you’ll soon be able to swipe down within apps to reload with the latest content available on macOS 27 Golden Gate. It’s one of the most intuitive gestures that you’d use every day without having to think about it. It works really well on both iPhone and iPad since their main input has been multi-touch, so no need for a keyboard shortcut or a menu item.
Of course, Apple has implemented several multi-touch gestures on macOS that could be performed on the Magic Mouse, the Magic Trackpad, and even the MacBook’s built-in trackpad, so seeing this gesture coming to macOS, is more than a welcome change that customers will love. Come to think of it, this further suggests that this gesture will be suited for the upcoming “MacBook Ultra” in mind, as we’ve heard several rumors that the said laptop will feature OLED touchscreens. While we could expect those machines to come out either later this year or in early 2027, this new feature certainly gives us a “sneak peek” at one of Apple’s biggest launches coming soon.
