Apple TV users will soon be able to update their tvOS version directly from the Home app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, similar to how updates install on HomePod and HomePod mini.
This change is seen in the second developer beta of iOS 27 released earlier today. While iOS 27 includes improvements to Liquid Glass, a new Siri AI, and new Screen Time options, it also includes these minor new features that further refine the software and the way it communicates with other devices.
HomePods have long been updated within the Home app, and this move streamlines the software further to bring the Apple TV in line with the same experience.

For this to work, users will need to update their iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and tvOS 27, respectively, which are expected to be released to the public this fall.
Notably, tvOS 27 will not support these two Apple TV models:
- Apple TV HD (2015)
- Apple TV 4K (1st generation – 2017)
This feature is currently in testing for beta users. Users who are registered as a developer on www.developer.apple.com can opt in to receive beta updates by going into Settings>General>Software Update>Beta Updates and selecting Developer Beta.
Do note that these versions are not stable and are meant for testing purposes. They are not recommended to be downloaded on a primary device due to the nature of beta software.
