It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the current iPhone Air has had its shortcomings, particularly with the battery life and the camera system, but it’s no secret anymore that Apple is actively developing a second-generation model that would hopefully win back potential customers who were looking to get the iPhone Air.
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, iPhone Air 2 is expected to feature a 3,500mAh battery, which would be an 11% increase in raw capacity over the current 3,149mAh in the current iPhone Air. Of course, combined with a slightly larger battery, Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chip is expected to be built on the new 2nm process for even better energy efficiency, which could further lead to longer battery life overall.
Additionally, it has been rumored that Apple has been exploring a second rear camera for the iPhone Air since the iPhone Air features only a Wide camera sensor, which falls behind the lower-priced iPhone 17 in terms of versatility, as that model has both the Wide and Ultra Wide. With that said, Bloomberg reported that the iPhone Air 2 will feature the Ultra Wide lens. It would be an engineering feat, as the camera plate of the iPhone Air houses most of the components, so Apple could possibly rearrange the components to fit in an additional camera. It’s likely that the second Ultra Wide camera could be across from the Wide lens; therefore, it’s possible that the iPhone Air 2 would continue to lack the Spatial Video recording required by the vertical arrangement of the Wide and Ultra Wide lens.
We’ll just have to wait and see, as we expect Apple to introduce the iPhone Air 2 alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in the spring of 2027.
