It looks like the next few years will be really huge for the Mac, as Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has reported that Apple is gearing up to refresh its entire Mac lineup over the next two years. As you may know, the Mac has seen such a strong year so far with the new launch of the MacBook Neo, and it looks like Apple is not stopping that momentum as the company is geared to launch a plethora of new Macs. Here are all the upcoming Mac models in Apple’s pipeline per Gurman’s report:
- Refreshed 14-inch base MacBook Pro with M6 chip (Fall 2026): Expected to feature the same design as the current MacBook Pro; codename J804
- Refreshed Mac mini (release timeframe uncertain): Currently in testing with M6 and M5 Pro chips
- Refreshed Mac Studio (release timeframe uncertain): Currently in testing with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips
- Refreshed iMac (Fall 2026): Expected to feature the same design and display; codenames J833 and J834
- Higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch “MacBook Ultra” (late 2026 – early 2027): all-new thinner design with tandem OLED touchscreens and Dynamic Island; M5 Pro and M5 Max chip options; codenames K114 and K116
- Refreshed MacBook Air: Expected to feature the same design as current MacBook Air, just with the M6 chip; codenames J913 and J915
- 14-inch base MacBook Pro with M7 chip (2027): Expected to feature a newer design akin to the “MacBook Ultra” (K114/K116); codename K104
- Refreshed MacBook Neo with A19 Pro chip (release timeframe uncertain): Expected to feature more memory and potentially new colors; could be updated on an annual basis
- Refreshed “MacBook Ultra” (late 2027 – early 2028): Expected to succeed the K114 and K116, upgraded to M7 Pro and M7 Max chips
- OLED MacBook Air (2028 at the earliest): Expected to bring OLED displays for the first time on a MacBook Air; could feature a redesign
- OLED iMac (release timeframe uncertain): Future iMac model would feature a more advanced OLED display in place of the LCD display, could match display quality as “MacBook Ultra”
Gurman also reported that Apple has completed development of both the refreshed iMacs and the base MacBook Pro, but Apple is holding them off for release until the fall. He also claimed that Apple is currently testing the “MacBook Ultra” with macOS 27.1, which is slated for release around late October, so Apple may launch it depending on whether it’s ready. For both the Mac mini and the Mac Studio, both machines have seen extreme demand from users to run AI workloads; so much so that demand has been far exceeding existing supply, and new orders have seen significant shipping delays, going as far as at least three months. Even Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that it could take a long while for the supply and demand to balance out. With that said, it now remains to be seen when Apple will update both the Mac mini and the Mac Studio.
All in all, the Mac as a whole is going to take even bigger leaps, so both existing and future customers should really get excited about what’s to come.
