As part of his weekly “Power On” newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reiterated that Apple is primed to launch at least two new Macs this coming October. The first of which will be the refreshed base-model 14-inch MacBook Pro, which is expected to feature the next-generation M6 chip. That MacBook Pro is expected to retain the same design as the current model, but the bigger hype has been centered around the higher-end MacBook Pro models, which are expected to be dramatically redesigned around tandem OLED displays and the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. However, those higher-end MacBook Pros could launch between the end of this year and the first half of next year. Last month, Gurman claimed that Apple was testing those machines with the unreleased macOS 27.1, which is scheduled to launch at the end of October.
The second Mac that will be updated in October is the iMac, which last saw an update back in October 2024. The current iMac features the M4 chip, so this next iMac could feature either the M5 or the M6 chip. However, expect the design to remain largely the same with the same 24-inch Retina 4K display that uses LCD technology. Down the road, the iMac is expected to transition to use an OLED display, and this week’s rumor indicates that it may feature a five-layer OLED panel.
These Macs should still be solid upgrades overall, nevertheless.
