After weeks of trying to find a buyer, Sony announced today that they are going to be shutting down PlayStation Vue, the company’s live TV streaming services.
In a statement, Sony said the following:
“Today we are announcing that we will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected…Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected.because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.”
At this moment right now, Sony has over 500,000 subscribers on its streaming TV platform, according to Cord Cutters News, which is considered a low number, compared to their competitors like Sling TV, YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV, just to name a few.
The service will be shutting down at the end of January 2020, so right now, be on the lookout for a new live TV streaming service for those who currently use the service. There are plenty of other options out there in 2019, so it should not be too hard to find a new home for your live TV streaming.
