Last year, even with the big release of Toy Story 4, Disney had one more card up its sleeve for summer movies, which was the live-action version of Lion King.
This version of the movie stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, John Oliver and Beyonce. James Earl Jones did reprise his role as Mufasa, which was the character he played in the original Lion King film in 1994.
The film itself was a financial success that generated over $1 billion across the globe, with over half of that coming from the United States.
Lion King was released on DVD, Blu-ray and on digital on October 11, 2019 (Digital) and October 22, 2019 (DVD and Blu-ray). It is also going to be one of the newest theatrical films to be put on Disney+.
Toy Story 4, the other Disney movie that was released before Lion King last summer, is to be released to Disney+ on February 5, 2020, which is literally next week.
Disney+ is available to stream on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. It costs $6.99 a month for just that service itself. There is a bundle that consumers can get with the service that includes Hulu (ad-supported) and ESPN+ too that costs $12.99 a month.
