In the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s weekly Powered On newsletter, he expects the next generation M3 lineup of Macs to launch as soon as this October. This will likely include the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the 24-inch iMac.
We can expect to see modest improvements in both the efficiency and performance cores as the M3 chip will bring the more advanced 3nm fabrication process for the first time. Last month, we saw huge updates to the Mac lineup that included the 15-inch MacBook Air and Mac Studio/Pro with M2 Ultra after supply chain issues for the higher-end M2 series chips. Gurman hasn’t speculated whether the upcoming M3 Macs will be announced at the October event or via a press release; however, we could see such a media event if Apple will announce more products beyond the Mac lineup.
Gurman also reports that the iPad Pro models with OLED displays are in the works for next year, and Apple plans to announce the next-generation iPad Air later this year, which is feasible considering the iPad Air is on a year-and-a-half refresh cycle. Gurman also reiterates that the larger 30-inch iMac is in development for next year.
