The dream of a truly all-screen iPhone, one with no notch or Dynamic Island, might finally have a target date. A new post has surfaced from the well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, giving us a potential timeline for the next big display leap from Apple.
According to Digital Chat Station, Apple’s roadmap for its non-foldable iPhones includes moving the front-facing camera system completely under the display by 2027. This would finally achieve the uninterrupted, edge-to-edge screen that many users have been waiting for.
What makes this rumor particularly significant is that it includes more than just the selfie camera. Digital Chat Station specifies the plan is for a “3D under-display Face ID” system plus an “under-display camera.”
This is a major technological hurdle. While some Android manufacturers have released phones with under-display cameras, the image quality is often a compromise. More importantly, no one has yet managed to mass-produce a system that hides complex 3D facial scanning sensors like Face ID, which require perfect clarity to function securely.
