You know that seamless pairing that both Apple Watch and AirPods models have been well known for? It looks like Apple is planning to bring that magic to even more third-party accessories in the not-too-distant future, including Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta glasses and Quest headsets, as spotted by Apple’s EU Interoperability Request page.

Back in October 2025, Meta filled out a request under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which prompted Apple to allow users to set up a Meta device on one Apple device and then that said third-party accessory will automatically connect to other Apple devices under the users’ Apple ID account, similar to what AirPods have been doing.

Apple then responded to Meta on February 4 that it planned to allow third-party apps to securely access data-sensitive materials using peer-to-peer encryption and security keys. The company expected to finish development on this expansion by spring 2027, followed by a launch shortly after. That would usually be around the time when Apple would launch iOS 27.4, but keep in mind that this is just speculation.

This feature will utilize the AccessorySetupKit and Proximity Pairing APIs that Apple constructed to comply with a March 2025 European Commission ruling. However, we just have to wait and see if this feature will ever come to fruition, or it could be pushed back, as it’s really up to Meta to meet the DMA resolution requirements. Still, it would be great for Apple to open its doors for third-party accessories for this kind of Bluetooth integration.
