Geekbench Results for the M6 and M5 Ultra Chips Are Out

Apple announced a new iteration of the Mac mini and Mac Studio last month, with the mini now featuring the new M6 chip and M5 Pro, and the Studio featuring the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chipsets. The M6 is Apple’s first 2-nanometer chip, bringing even more advancements to the Mac. According to Apple, “M6 features a 12-core CPU — two more cores than before — with the world’s fastest single-threaded performance, so everything feels extra snappy and responsive. A 12-core GPU, also with two more cores than before, now includes Neural Accelerators in each core for the first time on Mac mini, resulting in up to 4x faster AI performance and 2x faster graphics than Mac mini with M4. In addition, the all-new Dual 16-core Neural Engine delivers up to 2x faster performance than the previous generation, and combined with the advanced GPU, Mac mini is a powerhouse for all things AI.1 And with 16GB of standard unified memory configurable up to 32GB, as well as higher memory bandwidth up to 170GB/s, multitasking is faster than ever.”

With that said, benchmark test results purportedly of the new M6 chip have started to roll in. A new result from Geekbench 7 found by @jimmyjames_tech on X reveals a single-core score of 4071 and a multi-core score of 22,783 for the model identifier Mac18,5. A Geekbench 6 CPU test results in a single-core score of 4610 and a multi-core score of 20,676, while the GPU test shows a Metal Score of 97,137.

With the previous Mac mini with the M4 chip scoring in the range of around 3200 and 15000 for single-core and multi-core, respectively, the M6 marks an approximate increase of 27% in single-core and 51% in multi-core performance.

The Geekbench 7 scores for the M5 Ultra have also been revealed. The M5 Ultra is a significant step ahead of the M3 Ultra. According to Apple, “The new Mac Studio with M5 Ultra features an up-to-36-core CPU with 12 super cores and 24 performance cores, delivering up to 1.3x higher multithreaded performance than M3 Ultra. Its up-to-80-core GPU, the most powerful Apple silicon GPU ever, brings Neural Accelerators to the Ultra chip for the first time, enabling up to 4.3x the peak AI compute performance when compared to M3 Ultra.1 It also features up to 1.8x faster graphics than the prior generation, providing smoother real-time 3D rendering for VFX workflows.

The new Geekbench 7 result spotted by the same user reveals a single-core score of 3774 and a multi-core score of 52,516 for the model identifier Mac17,15 with 36-cores. There has been no GPU result that has been spotted in the Geekbench Browser yet. Compared to the highest-end 32-core CPU configuration of the M3 Ultra, whose single-core score is roughly around 3000 and multi-core score is around 40,000, the M5 Ultra would mark an approximate increase of 26% and 28% in single-core and multi-core scores, respectively.
