Apple’s iMac Pro is reportedly making a comeback as it is expected to return with new M1 chips and improved specs. With a possibility of a launch in the summer.
iMac Pro Revival
In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Gurman of Bloomberg has reiterated some of his previous statements regarding Apple’s 2022 launch of products. Beginning with the iPhone SE 3, iPad Air 5, and the return of the iMac Pro ”“ the three products are scheduled to be unveiled in either March or April.
When it comes to the latter, Gurman notes that Apple will launch a redesigned iMac Pro that’s “bigger than the current 24-inch design” and includes Apple Silicon chips similar to the M1 Pro and M1 Max found on the 2021 MacBook Pros:
“My expectation is that we’ll get a new model this year that is bigger than the current 24-inch design and branded as an iMac Pro. That would mean it has similar chips to the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors inside of the MacBook Pro. I’d also expect the new iMac Pro to have a similar design to the current M1 iMac.”
Rumors suggest that Apple will rebrand the iMac Pro this year and include numerous features to make it stand out from the current M1 iMac. Features like a bigger 27-inch display, mini-LED backlight, 120Hz ProMotion technology, more ports like HDMI; SD Card; Thunderbolt 4, and the potential for Face ID.
In late January, a report by @Dylandkt emerged and cited that a fourth variant of the M1 Chip is in production for its implementation in the upcoming iMac Pro.
Additionally, Apple’s 27-inch iMac with Nano-Textured Display was labeled to be unavailable until late March, which indicates that a new Mac desktop machine is on the way, making the return of the professional desktop machine much more possible.
Apple discontinued the iMac Pro last year as the company continues full steam ahead in its Mac transition from Intel-based chips to custom-made silicon ones.
Maybe This Summer At Least?
While many like us at Appleosophy are expecting an iMac Pro in at least two months, another prominent reporter notes that we might need to wait a little bit longer for the machine to be revived.
Ross Young, a reliable display supply analyst, is not expecting Apple to launch the 2022 iMac Pro this spring. As he reports that panel shipments will begin in June, pushing the unveiling of the product to at least WWDC 2022 with the launch expected in either August or September:
We expect panel shipments from June, but the product may not launch till August or September.

Young also notes that the desktop machine will have fewer mini-LED zones than in the panels of the iPad Pros and MacBook Pros.
So we can see that the iMac Pro’s release this year is tricky to guess, as it could be unveiled at any Apple event by now. With some suggestions in either March/April, June, or September. Looks like we have to wait and see.
In the near future, Apple is expected to hold a spring event and launch the iPhone SE 3 which houses an improved A15 Bionic chip, 5G, and features the same design as its predecessor. Additionally, the iPad Air 5 is right around the corner, featuring 5G, Center Stage, and Quad-LED True Tone.
