BREAKING: Apple officially launches its most powerful Mac Studio with M4 Max and M3 Ultra

Yesterday, Mark Gurman indicated that Apple would update the Mac Studio really soon with the M4 Max and the unreleased M3 Ultra. This morning, Gurman’s bizarre claim has officially confirmed to be correct.

The M4 Max already made its debut with the refreshed MacBook Pro models back in October, but the M3 Ultra clearly became the star of the show. Rather than jumping to the M4 Ultra, Apple surprised us all by introducing the M3 Ultra today. M3 Ultra is now the most powerful chip that Apple has ever made, delivering up to 2.6x the performance of M1 Ultra, and just like the M4 Pro/M4 Max, M3 Ultra also brings ultra-fast Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and a massive leap in memory expansion.

As mentioned before, M3 Ultra brings Thunderbolt 5 for the first time in a Mac Studio, enabling up to 120 Gb/s of transfer speeds – three times the maximum speeds that Thunderbolt 4 provides. M3 Ultra doubles the number of CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine cores of the M3 Max, and this is made possible thanks to the innovative UltraFusion packaging architecture. M3 Ultra can be configured up to 32 CPU cores (24 performance / 8 efficiency), 80 GPU cores, and 32 Neural Engine cores. The previous Mac Studio can be configured with up to 192GB of unified memory, but thanks to the M3 Ultra, the new Mac Studio can now be configured with up to 512GB of unified memory, over half a terabyte, which is the most ever on a personal computer, and that is just amazing.

Mac Studio is built for Apple Intelligence in mind, especially with the faster NPU on M4 Max and plenty of NPU cores on the M3 Ultra. Mac Studio works great with the Studio Display, giving you an unparalleled Mac experience than ever before.

Mac Studio is available to order today, and it will be available on March 12. Here are the configurations for the Mac Studio:

  • $1,999 – M4 Max (14-core CPU/32-core GPU/16-core Neural Engine), 36GB unified memory, 512GB SSD
    • configurable to M4 Max with 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, and 16-core Neutral Engine
  • $3,999 – M3 Ultra (28-core CPU/60-core GPU/32-core Neural Engine), 96GB unified memory, 1TB SSD
    • configurable to M3 Ultra with 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU, and 32-core Neutral Engine

With this week’s announcements, it’s a good time to buy an iPad, iPad Air, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio.
