WhatsApp has been working on multiple features for the social platform, and one of the new features that users are eager to have is multi-device support.

Now, we have new words from a spokesperson who was interviewed on TechRadar.

Multi-device support has been a missing feature on WhatsApp for a couple of years, especially when competitors like Telegram and Skype are already having this helpful feature.

TechRadar has interviewed a WhatsApp spokesperson and is confirming the feature is on its way but said that WhatsApp Web & Tablet is essential to the upcoming ecosystem.

“WhatsApp Web remains an important platform for our users. Until now, WhatsApp has only been available on one device at a time. Desktop and Web support only worked by mirroring off your phone ”“ which meant your phone had to be on and have an active internet connection.”

The upcoming feature is still in its beta development, which was discovered by WABetainfo and is available to some users already, the spokesperson is saying how useful Multi-device will be for the platform:

“Multi-device means that users will have the same functionality that is available on the current public versions of WhatsApp Web, Desktop, and Portal, just without the need to have your phone connected. Our multi-device capability immediately makes the experience better for people who use Desktop/Web and Portal. And it also will make it possible to add support for more kinds of devices over time.”

In a previous interview between WABetainfo and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the latter teased the fact that WhatsApp on iPad could be a reality. The spokesperson is perhaps referring to this tease as “more kinds of devices”.

Lastly, the spokesperson talked about how the pandemic has created ideas for WhatsApp to add as upcoming “business” features:

“We are always working to make private conversations on WhatsApp feel as close to in-person as possible, regardless of where you are in the world or the tech you’re using. With so many people still apart from their loved ones, adjusting to new ways of working and trying to keep their businesses running, we’ve focused on how we can provide more support in this area.”

WhatsApp has been teasing features this year like hotcakes. Features like WhatsApp Pay, Face ID login, and a view-once mode.
